Tom Howard State Representative

I was fortunate to have a telephone interview with Tom Howard Croydon Resident and State Representative (R), while he was visiting Bert Smith. Howard says he is enjoying serving his constituents and would like folks to know he is here to help them and encourages people to call him at 863-8434. Currently he is helping a resident of Newport, who married a woman in Vietnam, get a Visa so the couple can reunite.

Currently Howard is serving on the Resources and Development Committee. Representative Howard says he is still on the learning curve, but for the first time in his adult life, he feels he is making a difference. .

Representative Howard says that the proposed Safari Bill by Representative Renny Cushing (D) of Hampton has not come to the house yet, and he has not read it. However, Howard is against the Safari fee and says he will vote against it. The Safari Bill calls for private hunting grounds to pay $1.00 an acre for private hunting grounds over 500 acres. The only facility this would affect would be Corbin Park.

Town Clerk News

Brenda McGuire reports that the $1.00 fee for filing to run for offices is no longer required according to RSA: 669:17-A, Approved: June 6, 2008 and Effective Date: August 5, 2008.

People filing for Town and School offices are: 

• James C. Harding-Selectmen for 3 years

• Brenda McGuire-Town Clerk/Tax Collector for 3 years

• Kimberly McKinney-Croydon School District Treasurer for 1 year

• Jim Peschke-School Board Member for 3 years

Anyone desiring to run for a town office needs to file between Wednesday, Jan. 21 and Friday Jan. 30. Town Clerk Brenda McGuire is opening on Friday, Jan. 30 from 3-5 p.m. for filings only.

Open offices are:

         Selectman - Three Year Term

         Town Clerk and Tax Collector - Three Year Term

         Trustee of the Trust Funds and Cemeteries - Three Year Term

The School has the following openings for officers.  

         School Board member - Three Year Term

         School Moderator - One Year Term

         School Treasurer - One Year Term

Town Budget Meeting

The Town Budget Meeting for warrant articles is on Tuesday, Feb. 10 at 7:30 p.m. in the Selectman’s office. 

On The Cheap

Thursday, Jan. 29 is Gaming Day at the Richard Free Library, 58 Main St. hosted by Paul Mataruso: 4 to 6 p.m. Play Halo 3.
