Mount Sunapee Resort scholarship recipients announced


June 15, 2011 - Tim and Diane Mueller, owners of Mount Sunapee Resort, announced the 10 Mount Sunapee Council Scholarship Awards recipients for the 2011 school year, today. These one-year scholarships are valued at $1,000 each with the opportunity to re-apply for the following year. The scholarships are awarded to students of the three regional high schools: Sunapee, Newport, and Kearsarge.

According to the press release, seventy-four students have received more than $294,000 in college scholarships since 1999. "Thirty nine have completed four years of college and have gone onto careers. Twenty one recipients are still attending college. Another seven recipients have been chosen who will enter college this fall in addition to three recipients who are already in college." 

"Mount Sunapee Resort also awards four scholarships of $1,000 each to Mount Sunapee Resort employee students and employee dependents allowing them to further their academic endeavors."

Mount Sunapee Council Scholarships for 2011:


Katie Brode of Sunapee, NH graduated #1 in her class from Sunapee Middle High School with a 3.91 GPA. She will be attending Wagner College and wants to become a Physician Assistant. Katie has traveled to Thailand, Europe and Costa Rica and wants to make her career traveling to places where medical care is needed and she can use her medical skills. 

Emily Weinberger of Sunapee, NH graduated 2nd in her class at Sunapee Middle High School. She is planning on attending Bowdoin College and majoring in Pre-Med Neuropsychology with a minor in Spanish. Emily plans to go on to Medical School and reside in a Spanish-speaking country where she can combine her passion for medicine and the Spanish language. 

Leanne Rubchinuk of Newport, NH is a graduate of Newport High School. She graduated 10th in her class with an average grade of 92.78. Her life-long love for animals and particularly horses has lead her to St. Michael’s College where she will major in Biology/Pre-Veterinarian. Leanne was active in 4-H, sports, music and volunteer programs at Newport HS.

Nicholas Sullivan of Newport, NH graduated 5th in his class at Newport High School with a 94.39 grade average. He plans to attend University of New Hampshire and major in Engineering. Nicholas was Class President his senior year and Captain of the football team. He would like to attend Law School and get a degree in Intellectual Property Law. 

Anna Buchar of Bradford, NH graduated from Kearsarge Regional High School with a 3.98 GPA placing her 4th out of a class of 170. She plans on attending either Plymouth State College or Dartmouth in the fall and major in Education and Speech. She was a well rounded student at KRHS participating sports, music, student affairs and volunteer work. 

Lindy Heffernan of Sutton Mills, NH is a graduate of Kearsarge Regional High School. She plans to attend either St. Michael’s or Colby College and major in Psychology. Lindy received the Tri-Athlete Award in 2009 and 2010 and was Captain of the soccer, lacrosse and ski teams.
She is also a member of the National Honor Society and is active in community service.

Matthew Wilson of Newbury, NH graduated 4th in his class at Kearsarge Regional High School. He will be attending Colby College where he will major in Biology. He plans to attend graduate school to concentrate on pathology and genetics. Matthew has a passion for music and was in Men’s Choir, Concert Choir, Concert Band, Pep/Marching Band and Jazz Band at KRHS. 

Jay Cady of New London, NH, just completed his freshman year at Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute where he has a 3.5 GPA. He is majoring in Electrical/Computer and Systems Engineering. Jay is the Philanthropy Chair for Sigma Chi fraternity at RPI. He is also training to become an EMT with the RPI Ambulance. He attended Kearsarge Regional High School.

Tasia Rechisky of Sunapee, NH just completed her freshman year at Boston University where she has a 3.83 GPA. She is in the College of Arts and Sciences and wants to pursue a career in non-profit management and community development. Working in Boston as a tutor for the Dorchester Boys and Girls Club has helped Tasia determine her career path. 

Jerel Ward of Warner, NH just completed his freshman year at Boston College where he has a 3.61 GPA. An outstanding athlete at both Kearsarge Regional and Concord High Schools, Jerel is majoring in Biochemistry Pre-Med. His career interest lies in orthopedics. This past winter he skied for the Boston College Varsity Ski team. 

Mount Sunapee Employee Dependent Student Scholarships


Andrea Iacopino of Newbury
, NH is currently enrolled at Montana State University. She is majoring in Elementary Education. She would like to teach in public schools or organizations such as Teachers Without Borders. Andrea is a graduate of Kearsarge Regional High School. He father Jack Iacopino works in the Alpine Program at Mount Sunapee.

Kristyn von Svoboda of Newbury, NH is a graduate of Kearsarge Regional High School. She will be attending Florida Atlantic University where she plans on majoring in Business or Finance. Kristyn played four years of lacrosse and soccer and was captain of her lacrosse team her senior year. Her mother Holly von Svoboda works at the Learning Center at Mount Sunapee. 

Mount Sunapee Resort Employee Student Scholarships

Sarah Kossak of Bedford, NH is attending St. Lawrence University where she is majoring in Chemistry. Upon completion of college she is anticipating attending medical school or graduate school. She is interested in drug synthesis or pharmaceuticals. Sarah attended Bedford High School. She works in the Ski Patrol at Mount Sunapee.

Jennifer Petty of Bridgewater, MA is a graduate of Bridgewater-Raynham High School. After working for two winters in the Mount Sunapee Rental Shop, her college search led her to nearby Colby-Sawyer College in New London. She fell in love with Colby-Sawyer and will start there in the fall majoring in Nursing.
